Our First BKD

Well..it's our first real BKD (big kid decision).  Let me start from the beginning....I married Rene Zeringue, who is by the way such a stud, last August 4th, and we began our journey together.  Our first big obstacle was to live separately for 4 1/2 months (this was so hard for the both of us, but such a blessing in God's timing at the same time).  We conquered this obstacle with flying colors I might say, and I graduated from Troy in December with a degree in Elementary Education.  I moved home!! My new home! My home with my hubby! Seriously the most exciting moment yet in our marriage!
So we have now been living together for three months, and it has been wonderful.  God has blessed me with the time to grow in Him, while I don't have a constant job, to grow closer to our wonderful church body, and serve my husband as a simple house wife.  Well along these three months we have had quite a few BKDs to make; this includes new jobs, renewing our lease, and now the biggest yet....kids.  Not us having kids, but the opportunity to adopt kids.
This all started about two months ago when my Uncle Ricky's wife died unexpectedly (Collette). A little background information on my Uncle; he and his wife married five years ago. They have two boys, Alanus (5) and Jerry (4), who are precious and such a gift from God.  Uncle Ricky was diagnosed with cancer about two or three years ago and has been such a fighter through it all.  He is such a great role-model for the strength and the faith of constantly pursuing healthiness. Thanks Uncle Ricky!  When the doctors did the chemo-therapy and radiation, he had an allergic reaction and it ended up burning the inside of his body.  The cancer is cured! Hallelujah! But the burns in his body are affecting his body tremendously and has many side effects.
Well when we were at the funeral, Rene said, "You know, if something ever happens and we need to help with those kids we will."  In the back of my mind, this stuck.  I am not sure why he had that thought, but I believe God put it there.  Then, a few weeks later we found out that Uncle Ricky's condition was getting worse, and that arrangements had to made for the kids.  If not, they would go to the state and end up who knows where. This is when prayers began to go up about adoption or becoming legal guardians.
We knew God had a great plan for us, the kids, and our family, we just weren't sure how He was going to use us.  After much prayer and confusion, we came to the conclusion that God may want us to be a transition stage for the children.  We have talked with adoption agencies, attorneys, and a lot of family to seek wisdom and knowledge on the process of it all.  There are so many families out there who desire to have boys/children and aren't able to; so we would love to give them the opportunity, but also hate to take the boys from our family.
Today, we went to see Uncle Ricky and discuss all the logistics.  We are going to become the legal guardians of Alanus and Jerry, while Uncle Ricky strives to heal and get better.  When the time comes, we will either hopefully be able to hand them back over into that strong man's arms.  If not, we will decide if we want to keep them, give them to another family member, or choose the adoption option.
I say all of this because it is so cool to see how God has worked through all of this.  In the beginning God placed it on our heart that in the future we may consider taking in two kids, but never did we think that this would be a reality. God has given us peace and strength to get this far, and we can't wait to see how he equips to raise these two precious kids.
